Eating high lysine foods, or taking lysine capsules, will flood your cells with lysine and cure your cold sores in a hurry.

Lysine as a cold sore treatment, users claim, requires the intake of from 2000 to 6000 milligrams per day. You will have to experiment a bit until you find the right dosage for yourself.

3. MINERAL ZINC. Famous as the healing mineral, zinc may prove to be your best friend against cold sores. Zinc is a strong anti-oxidant and chases away pathogens of all types - including the herpes simplex virus.

Look for daily multi-vitamin programs containing a minimum of 15 milligrams of zinc. If your vitamin does not, then change brands.

Zinc is plenty safe, but do not exceed 50 milligrams per day.

Use a cold sore remedy containing either zinc sulfate or zinc gluconate. These two forms of zinc absorb best. You will find zinc to be an excellent external remedy for cold sores.

4. ALOE VERA. You will find the sap from the leaves of the Aloe Vera plant is like fertilizer for skin growth. You will be amazed how quickly your cold sores will heal when you apply this liquid.

Bottled gel is available but does not seem to work very well. For optimal results, use live gel from a live plant. Everyone should have an aloe vera plant - they are so easy to grow.

It is very simple. Just break off an inch or so of leaf and squeeze the gel right on your cold sores. The plant heals itself for the next time.
